This talk will cover the first year of the Northamptonshire Archaeological Resource Centre (ARC) based at the Chester House Estate in Irchester being open. The ARC acts as the new publicly accessible archaeological archive repository for Northamptonshire and opened to the public and researchers in October 2021. This talk will touch on the project to set-up the ARC, the move of the collections to it, our first year of being open to the public and researchers, and our plans for the future. It will also cover some of the problems and successes that we have encountered along the way. We will cover what an archaeological archive is, our work with community archaeology groups such as CLASP, our archive guidelines and how depositions work and try to put the work we do into its national context.

Please note:

  • Questions for the speaker at a virtual conference should be sent via the “Chat” option. The meeting chair will collate questions sent and, time permitting, the speaker will answer them all in a Q&A session at the end of the talk.
  • The conference will be captured on video and provided on the CLASP website. If you’d rather there’s no chance at all that your image will appear on the conference video please ensure that your video is disabled (stop video is the lower right-hand corner has a red line through it) when joining.
