Dressed Stone

Both of these pieces of dressed stone are local ironstone worked in the Roman period. They both have tool marks. They were found in the lining of a post-roman culvert to the East of the Bath House.

They were part of the ornamental architecture of the villa or bath house: the upper stone was was possibly part of a pediment over the main entrance to the bath house or villa. The lower stone was possibly probably part of a string course lower down the wall.
